Permanent Installations
NEW ENDINGS
by Diane Kempler
Why are those boulders in Freedom Park?
New Endings (pictured above), a bronze fountain sculpture conceived and executed by internationally known sculptor, Diane Kempler, was installed in Walton Springs Park on Andrew Young International Boulevard in 1996. When it was suggested that a new sculpture honoring Andrew Young be installed at that location, Ms. Kempler selected a location for New Endings in Freedom Park. In mid July 2008 three large boulders, which were part of the original installation, were moved to their new location in Freedom Park near the intersection of Euclid Avenue and North Avenue. According to Mr. Eddie Granderson, Program Manager in the Public Art Division of the Atlanta Department of Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs, a timeline for the installation of New Endings in Freedom Park will not be available until the artist returns to Atlanta in August. (A draft of the site plan is below.) We eagerly await the permanent installation of New Endings in Freedom Park and will update you as information becomes available.
